There is salt on the road, where is your Prelude?

Its that time of the year again (albeit late this year) when the roads start getting icy and the salt comes out. My Prelude has been parked for most of the year but how about the rest of you? How long has yours been off the road? Do you have any big winter plans? Was it a good year to be a Prelude owner?

huge winter plans for mine! It's parked under my apartment this year with heated (as in, temp stays above 0 degrees but is still pretty dang cold) parking.

1) I think new wheels are in order to refresh the car's look, plus I need new tires anyway.
2) adjustable ball joints so my new tires don't wear on the insides like these ones have
3) new motor/tranny mounts
4) polyurethane bushing master set
5) stainless steel brake lines
6) maybe lower suspension depending on the wheel selection but I would just be buying springs to go on my tokico struts, so not an expensive purchase

Since those are all just drivers mods (aside from the wheels), my final one is a biggie:

The motor is being pulled out in the spring and the engine bay is being shaved and painted. I think I'm looking at a charcoal or steel grey color.

That's about it! Of course, I'm always in search of a leather interior but I'm not holding my breath and I'm not going to pay for them to be shipped across canada either

I used to have a picture of a Mugen Prelude with 18" dished volk rims. It was sexy, you should look into something like that... and maybe you can figure out a way to do this to your hood/headlights:

Razz

What do you mean by a shaved engine bay? Do you just mean hiding all the wires/etc?

that prelude lokos unreal! As far as I can tell it has the black-housed halos and a modified hood? not that difficult to do really but the difference is awesome!

here's a shaved engine bay:

the goal is to get rid of un-needed holes and stuff and just leave spots for placing the motor mounts, PS, brake fluids etc. Everything else gets welded, filled and painted.

The new 'trend' is to take the body panels off and spray the engine and surrounding frame a contrasting color. Then, when you bolt the fenders and bumper back on, it looks really good. The trick I think is to be tasteful and not have some ridiculous color... so I'm going to use a dark grey I think.

Mine has been off the road for a couple weeks now. Storing it in a Barn so I won't have any access to do anything to it this winter. I am not sure if I will buy anything in the spring. I will probably do stainless steel brake lines at minimum.

Andrew, that will look awesome in the engine bay. A lot of work but it is really worth it once it gets done and looks so clean!

Pat, you shouldn't be drinking captain, it is bad for your health. I would never drink that stuff, it's the devil.

Oh and I bought a new winter beater... it's a 2003 honda accord Smile.

haha scotty! The Accord is a well-deserved upgrade for that promotion you got. In high school a friend of mine's parents bought him one new (they were loaded) and it was a really nice car.

And I hear ya for storage, now that I see mine every morning I can't stop thinking about it. It's gonna be a long winter.

Yes the Accord is a well deserved upgrade from my previous vehicle. I got a whole $250 for that gem. The accord is really nice, it drives very smooth and has decent power.

It does make it easier not storing the car in my garage, I know it is hard to look at it and not want to take it out for a rip.

My Lude is sleeping under it's blanket in my brother's garage. Do you guys lower your insurance for the winter, I just keep fire and theft?

That's exactly what I do, remove PL/PD and collision, just keep comp for the winter.

Mine is being...driven Embarassed I've done the winter beater thing and it's tres annoying, plus now that I'm living away from home, it makes it more difficult. Maybe once my lotto win happens I'll have the Prelude away...until then it's frequent baths and driving as little as possible. Yes I'm well aware Prelude in winter is blasphemous, but luckily I'm Catholic, they'll forgive anything! haha

I saw Scotty's blue one on South Park yesterday as well as the black one (Tyler? Corey?)! Sadly, I was still driving the HHR... I have been 10 hours a day in my underground parking the last 2 days prepping the car, and it is going to take more time this week... but I'm aiming to have it out by Friday.

The engine bay cleanup I posted above is happening on a bit of a smaller scale at the moment, but it is still going to look totally different!

We need to set up a day to meet up at Point Pleasant or Tims in the next week or two!

Yeah you did see me on Saturday. I took it out that day and it was beautiful! What a nice day. I saw the black one as well and was talking to the guy at the lights for a second. Not sure his name. It was in good shape, SH rims on it.

We have to plan to meet once yours is out smumoot. Let me know when and where!

Well wasn't me. Just got mine out last saturday, and haven't really driven it yet. Put OEM front lip on, and cross drilled brakes on all 4 corners. Along with new pads. Car needs to be saftey inspected then she'll be out!

Cars coming along great smumoot. Followed the progress on Lowmo.
